Emigre's Story
Emigre is a 35ft cutter-rigged sailboat, designed by John Duncanson and built by Duncanson Yachts South Australia in 1983.
I purchased Emigre in April 2018 after viewing a listing on Yachthub.com. The boat was lying at Claremont Yacht Club, a historic yacht club on the Swan River in Perth Western Australia. After searching for a suitable boat to live onboard for quite some time, it was love at first sight. Walking along the dock with the owner, my family and I immediately knew that "she was the one". Emigre was owned by an elderly gentleman who had loved her and sailed her for the past 15 years, both cruising and racing in the Swan River and the Indian Ocean as far north as the Abrolhos Archipelago (200m), and as far south as Quindalup. (100 miles) Unfortunately, the previous owner had to reluctantly sell his pride and joy with his health becoming a bigger focus of his time.

Emigre appeared to be the perfect boat for me. She was within my budget, safe for extended offshore passages, comfortable, spacious enough to live on and most importantly she has enough headroom and sleeping room for someone 6ft 4" tall.
This is very important for a boat that is going to become your house for the foreseeable future.
She was by no means in perfect condition however she was tidy, had a new engine (26hrs) and had the kind of charm that's
With all things considered and subject to test sail, my family decided to put an offer in on her which was gladly accepted by the owner. With papers signed and money changed hands, I was lucky enough to be the proud owner of my first house. But of course, not without a few adventures while sailing it to my home port of Quindalup, three low bridges and 100 nautical miles south of Perth.
